MATERIAL MADNESS

I needed to practice material indication and rendering on Illustrator and Photoshop. The most difficult thing I could think of rendering was ceramic.

There are 3 elements that I really love about ceramics. First, it always has a warmth that other materials don't have. Even mass produced pieces feel comforting. Second, it has always been an outlet, especially when I did this in high school. I feel like a kid playing with mud. At the same time, learning how to Raku glaze allowed me to set pretty big fires at school! Third, you never know what your piece will look like coming out of the kiln. It's a surprise every time!

I first rendered the 3 stages of clay: wet clay, leather hard clay, and bone dry clay.

I then rendered Raku glaze. Raku has a lot of different finishes depending on it's treatment. This was the most difficult thing to replicate.

Lastly, I rendered different kitchenware / food safe glazes. I did mass produced, everyday house ware, porcelain, and cone 6 glazed.

Also mochi because how could I not try that?

Personal Brand Film

METHOD OF STORYTELLING

The film will start with sketches in a long fold out book that visually explain who I am. It will start with a doodle of me, and continue with a voice over. It will be scripted before I know what to draw.

Projects: The main concept will be written in my own hand writing. It will then fade to sketch compilations of my thinking with text captions. A sketch of the final product will then fade into an actual image of the product (pan over one large image of sketches). This will be done for only 2 projects (casa and Skive), in order to not bore the audience.

Ending scene: flip through of all the logos I developed and fade into the final red circle (marvel comics intro). Name fades in last.

/end video.

IMAGE REFERENCES and why I like it.

This is from Kwudesign.com. Her renderings have this nice, unfinished quality about it, and the focus of the piece is clear. I can use this style to add pops of color to my sketches in Illustrator or by hand.

Sabic / Interior design film

PROJECT: This film will be a summary of the project that I did for Sabic in Trans 5A. I designed a vehicle that adapts to Generation Alpha's explorative nature in 2030. The concept utilizes plastics because it is sponsored by Sabic, an innovative plastics company.

THE NARRATIVE

Scene: Person silhouette appears, short statements appear about this 'gen A' character as his face, clothes an accessories (backpack?) appear on him. This should capture the gist of Gen Alpha, the explorer archetype that I'm designing for.

Scene: Drop him into his day in a life routine and go through it.

Scene: Top view build. Start from wheels and vehicle builds up from there. Once it reaches the main sweeping character line, the style changes to show designed vs utilitarian style. Then continues to build all the way up until the roof appears. (Can be a simple, gray body animation in solidworks)

Scene: View pans around the interior space while pointing to workspace, bed storage, item storage, doors and window technology. Caption where plastics are being utilized.

Last scene: Images of lighting and the person doing things inside the space (3 to 4 images of different times of the day). Finally fade to black page of logo (if there is one) and 'name of project x Sabic'.
